Billy Talent Tops The Charts with Dead Silence
September 19 2012

According to Nielsen/Soundscan, a service which measures physical and digital sales in North America, Warner Music Canada recording artists Billy Talent have today entered the Canadian album sales chart at #1 with their fourth studio album, Dead Silence. It is the third consecutive #1 debut from the band. Billy Talent introduced Canadian fans to the record last week by making a whirlwind promo trip across Canada highlighted by a surprise performance atop the Chateau Laurier Hotel in Quebec City in front of more than 5,000 fans gathered in La Place George-V. It was also huge week internationally for Billy Talent with Dead Silence making impressive debuts around the world. The record debuted at #1 in Germany which is the second time the band has topped the German charts (Billy Talent II debuted at #1 while the band’s third album debuted at #2). Dead Silence also bowed in at #2 in Austria, #3 in Switzerland, #12 in Finland, #23 in the U.K. and #34 in Australia. Making this success all the more satisfying for the band is the fact that Dead Silence is their first self-produced album. Guitarist Ian D’Sa handled all of the production duties alongside engineers Eric Ratz and Kenny Luong. Dead Silence was recorded in Vancouver, Toronto and Los Angeles. Back in early June, with more recording ahead of them and a few major festival dates on the horizon, Billy Talent released the song “Viking Death March” as an album preview for their fans. Though not intended as an official first single, the track quickly became a Top 5 Rock Radio hit. Just a week after releasing the track the band enjoyed the sight of over 100,000 people singing the song at the Rock Am Ring Festival in Germany. The album’s current single, “Surprise Surprise” is rapidly working its way up the Canadian Rock radio charts and has already reached #1 airplay in Finland. Critics agree that Dead Silence is one of the band’s strongest albums to date: “…a reason to fall in love with Billy Talent all over again” 4K!
