Produced by John Hill (Santigold, M.I.A.) with co-production from Portugal. The Man lead singer/guitarist/songwriter John Gourley and longtime band producer Casey Bates, and mixed by Grammy Award winner Andy Wallace (Nirvana, Jeff Buckley), âIN THE MOUNTAIN IN THE CLOUDâ marks the first recording to truly harness the Portland, Oregon-based bandâs exhilarating live show. From the dynamic opener âSo Americanâ to the sprawling vision of âSleep Forever,â the album â Portugal. The Manâs sixth overall â captures a truly distinctive band evolving in real time, revealing their singular sonic vision in its purest and most powerful form thus far.

Among the many highlights included on âIN THE MOUNTAIN IN THE CLOUDâ is the first single, âGot It All (This Canât Be Living Now).â The track is impacting now at alternative rock radio outlets nationwide, while its official video premiered yesterday at Mashable.com.

âIN THE MOUNTAIN IN THE CLOUDâ has already garnered critical praise from an array of national publications and online outlets. âOne of the yearâs best rock efforts,â declared MTV.com, âbrimming with angst, atmosphere, and angular, indie-leaning guitarsâ¦Youâll be reading much more about them in the months to come.â âThe Alaska foursome (who now live in Portland, Ore.) retains much of its established tendencies here,â noted Relix, âsoaring psychedelic melodies; frontman John Gourleyâs soulful, soprano vocals; and the underlying sense that you are witnessing a spontaneous fusion of psych-rock with woodsy indie folk.â âSeamless and innovative,â decreed Paste, adding that Portugal. The Man âbreak musical boundaries with every release.â Jason Bentley, Music Director and host of KCRWâs âMorning Becomes Eclecticâ declared: ââ¦In The Mountain In The Cloud is an expertly crafted collection of songs that draws on the joy, sadness, and complexity of life as its creative palette to represent the spirit of our time. A bold task to take on the vastness of human experience, but this record has a switched-on consciousness that makes it a rare find. As a singular achievement, In The Mountain In The Cloud is simply one of the best records of the year.â

Whatâs more, Paste recently named Portugal. The Manâs performance atop a Mr. T. Mardi Gras float as their #1 âFavorite Momentâ from this yearâs Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival. The surprise 3AM set followed a New Orleans-style second line parade through the festival grounds led by members of My Morning Jacket and the legendary Preservation Hall Jazz Band.

Since their formation in 2005, Portugal. The Man has captured the attention of the American indie scene with their extraordinary amalgamation of electronic beats, complex melodies, and atmospheric post-rock soundscapes. Formed in Wasilla, Alaska by lead singer/guitarist/songwriter John Gourley before migrating south to the Pacific Northwest, the band proved as prolific as they were eclectic, releasing an album each year since their 2006 debut, âWAITER: âYOU VULTURES!ââ
Each consecutive collection revealed the ongoing evolution of Portugal. The Man, from the cathartic hard rock of 2007âs âCHURCH MOUTHâ and the theatrical pop psychedelia of 2008âs âCENSORED COLORSâ to the sci-fi chamber-pop found on 2009âs âTHE SATANIC SATANISTâ and 2010âs âAMERICAN GHETTO.â

Portugal. The Man has also proven an inexhaustible live act, performing more than 800 shows over the course of their 6-year history. Moreover, the band has stolen the show at a variety of major festivals, including Bonnaroo Music & Arts Festival, Lollapalooza, and the Sasquatch! Music Festival. Their performance at 2010âs Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival was singled out by a range of publications, including the Wall Street Journal, which placed PTMâs set among the festivalâs âmost satisfying moments⦠Already a fine, adventurous band, Portugal. The Man has upped its game through tighter musical and vocal arrangements.â

Portugal. The Man is John Gourley: vocals, guitar; Zachary Scott Carothers: bass, vocals; Jason Sechrist: drums; Ryan Neighbors: keys, vocals.
