Rikers To Release Debut Album - Islands, Set Out on Tour with Big Wreck!
April 10 2012

April 10, 2012

Anthem/Warner Music Canada are pleased to announce the release of Rikersâ debut album Islands, arriving in stores and at all digital retailers on April 17th. The band will mark the day of release by playing their single âIâm On The Radioâ live on 102.1 The Edge, as well as performing at The Horseshoe Tavern later that night.

The Peterborough post-punkersâ band was founded by front man Ryan Kennedy and guitarist Russ Davidson, who were later joined by Colin Spencer (bass), Alex Perry (keyboards), and Curt Jackson (drums). The group has a vision for more than just their music. Kennedy says âIf I fall in love musically, I expect every other element of the band to be as good: the album cover, the video, the poster, the live show, everything.â This passion for style and art can be seen in the video for their debut single âIâm On the Radioâ (

Islands is a perfect calling card to introduce Rikers. Although comparisons to Psychedelic Furs, Human League, or INXS are inevitable, of the album Kennedy says simply âWe just want to make the coolest, most interesting pop music that we can. Songs people can sing along to.â The eight song album achieves this goal, seeming like an imaginary soundtrack to a John Hughes classic, full of shimmering melodies, and hungry hooks. Though rooted in the familiar sounds of the past, the album is brilliantly cast in todayâs hues.

Rikers have a busy spring lined up for themselves. They were recently tapped to join Big Wreck on their national Canadian tour. This 15 date tour will take the band from Victoria, right through to Montreal. The full list of tour dates can be found below.
