SCOTT HELMAN TO RELEASE DEBUT EP, AUGUSTA, ON TUESDAY, OCTOBER 14, 2014
October 02 2014

Warner Music Canada is pleased to announce that singer-songwriter Scott Helman will be releasing his debut EP, Augusta, on Tuesday, October 14, 2014. The seven track EP features the first single “Bungalow” as well as “Cry Cry Cry” and “The Lion”, both of which have been gaining an audience on Scott’s Youtube page since their release this past April. “I want to make music that’s good and makes people think and want to dance and feel things and give them value. I want people to know that they are important and that they have valuable and important things to say. Everybody is free to express themselves.” – Scott Helman Born and raised in Toronto, Scott’s parents filled the house with music but it was a steady diet of 80’s pop that didn’t really connect with him. It wasn’t until one rainy day at a friend’s cottage, while listening to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon, that Scott had the musical epiphany that set him on his way. “From the moment it started I was speechless,” Scott recalls. “I was amazed at how moved I was by the lyrics. I remember thinking, ‘I want to spend the rest of my life trying to make something half as good as this.’” Working with producer Tawgs Salter (Lights, Josh Groban, USS) and songwriter Simon Wilcox, Scott discovered new sounds and ideas locked up inside, allowing him to bloom as an artist. In the midst of writing and recording Augusta, Scott and his band began to get their feet wet and build an audience with a series of showcase performances at The Supermarket in Toronto. Earlier this summer they opened for Tegan and Sara at the TD Music Café and last week saw them onstage at the venerable Massey Hall opening for Matt Good.
