Fun. Earns First Gold Album in Canada!
July 11 2012

Canada has embraced fun. in a huge way. The bandâs Fueled By Ramen breakthrough album âSOME NIGHTSâ has been certified GOLD in Canada today. Canada is the first country in the world to honour fun. with a gold-certified album. As well, their smash hit âWE ARE YOUNGâ (feat. Janelle Monae) is now 5x-platinum, while their second single, also titled âSOME NIGHTS,â has already reached gold status.
While âWE ARE YOUNGâ is still a top 5 hit in Canada after reaching No. 1 on the CHR, All Format, Modern Rock and Le Palmares Anglo charts, âSOME NIGHTSâ is making its ascent up the charts and is now a multi-format hit as well. The music video for âSOME NIGHTSâ was added at MuchMusic and MusiquePlus.
In addition to five previously-announced Canadian tour dates in August and September, fun. have added a Vancouver date on August 11. The band will headline the wrap-up concert celebrating the runners in lululemonâs inaugural half marathon called The SeaWheeze. The outdoor concert will take place on Jack Poole plaza near the Olympic Cauldron. The majority of the plaza will be reserved for runners; however, the concert is open to the community. Having earned widespread acclaim with their 2009 debut album, âAIM AND IGNITE,â fun. decided to raise the stakes with âSOME NIGHTSâ by teaming with noted producer Jeff Bhasker (Kanye West, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Beyoncé, Drake). The band and Bhasker have worked to evolve the idiosyncratic fun. sound by marrying their robust melodies with elements of hip-hop.

Fueled by âWe Are Young,â the bandâs smash Fueled By Ramen debut album, âSOME NIGHTSâ entered Canadaâs âTop Current Albumsâ chart at #5 upon its February release. In addition to its spectacular popular success, the album has also earned ecstatic critical praise, with Rolling Stone applauding its blend of âclassic bubble-pop tunefulness with rococo rock & rollâ as well as singer Nate Ruessâ âhuge voice, all snarl and Broadway panache.â SPIN hailed the albumâs âcombination of record-collector bravado and lyrical vulnerability,â singling out âthe towering, thrilling âOne Footââ and âthe do-the-robot opening-to-the-car-with-the-windows-down anthem âIt Gets Better.ââ The New York Times praised the band for their âgrandiose pop tunes with complex structures, soaring hooks, and pensive verses.â

âWe Are Young (Feat. Janelle Monáe)â made history in the U.S. with seven successive weeks of sales in excess of 300,000, toppling the previous record held by Eminemâs âLove The Way You Lie (Feat. Rihanna),â the only other title ever to have five straight weeks with sales over 300,000.
