Atlantic recording group Death Cab for Cutie has announced details of their upcoming summer tour. The North American dates get underway with a pair of Canada Day Weekend shows with The Tragically Hip â slated for June 30th at The Commons in Niagara-on-the-Lake, Ontario and July 1st at Burlâs Creek in Barrie, Ontario â and then continue through late July (see attached itinerary).
Among the scheduleâs many highlights is a July 17th headline date at Nashvilleâs legendary Ryman Auditorium, and a series of festival performances including Milwaukeeâs Summerfest on July 5th, Des Moines, Iowaâs 80/35 Music Festival on July 7th, Chicagoâs annual âThe Taste of Chicagoâ on July 12th, Cincinnatiâs Bunbury Music Festival on July 15th, and Dover, Delawareâs Firefly Music Festival on July 22nd.

Presale tickets for all headline dates will be available to members of the bandâs official fan club, DCFC Union Local #1138, beginning this Wednesday, May 2nd. A limited number of premium bundles are on offer, including 1 General Admission ticket with Early Entry, 1 Limited Edition DCFC Event Poster, 1 DCFC Tour T-shirt, and DCFC Union Local #1138 membership (1 year membership or renewal). For more information, please visit www.dcfcunion.com. All remaining tickets will then go on sale to the general public starting this Friday, May 4th. For further details and as-yet-unannounced tour information, please visit www.deathcabforcutie.com.

DCFC is currently in the midst of a one-of-a-kind spring trek that sees the band accompanied on stage by members of San Franciscoâs innovative Magik*Magik Orchestra. The tour â which continues through a May 13th homecoming at Seattleâs Paramount Theatre â has drawn rapturous critical acclaim at each stop, with No Depression hailing a recent show at Torontoâs Massey Hall as âa unique and beautiful live music experience.â âThis is the way that Death Cab should always be,â declared the Omaha World Herald, noting that âthereâs nothing wrong with the music before, but the orchestra fills everything out. The big moments feel huge and the poignant points are even more touching.â

Milwaukeeâs Shepherd Express pointed out that the orchestral group â which previously teamed with Death Cab for Cutie for their recent installment of VH1 Storytellers â âheightened (Ben) Gibbard's gloomy, jangling tunes but didn't overpower themâ¦Their flourishing addition to âI Will Follow You Into the Darkâ careened that one-man-and-his-guitar desolation into a sweeping jaunt that cloaked the actual moroseness of the song.â â(Death Cabâs) set spanned a broad emotional range,â applauded Denverâs Westworld, âmassive climaxes crashing into quiet, sadness that drew everyone forward to the edge of their seatsâ¦âTransatlanticism,â the final song of the night, was incomprehensibly amazing. Already a great song, with the strings added, it became transcendent.â

The seemingly non-stop tour schedule follows the release of Death Cab for Cutieâs critically acclaimed album, âCODES AND KEYS.â âYou Are A Tourist,â the albumâs first single, proved a multi-format radio smash upon its release last year, reaching #1 at both Triple A and Modern Rock outlets nationwide â DCFCâs first-ever #1 at the latter format.

âCODES AND KEYSâ entered the Billboard 200 at #3 upon its May 2011 release. In addition to its popular success, the album also received critical praise from an wide array of national publications, including Spin, Rolling Stone, Blackbook, Time Out New York, Interview, Filter, the New York Times, and Entertainment Weekly, which declared the album to be âa reminder to the rest of the pretty-rock community that loveliness is worthless if thereâs no heart behind it, and Death Cabâs beats stronger than most.â

Death Cab for Cutie is: Ben Gibbard: guitars, keyboards, vocals * Chris Walla: guitars, keyboards * Nick Harmer: bass * Jason McGerr: drums.
