Wednesday, December 12, 2012

Michael Bubléâs 2011 holiday album, Christmas, returned to the top position on Canadaâs album sales chart this week according to figures supplied by Nielsen SoundScan. With a sales increase of 62% over last week, the album returned to the #1 position 50 weeks after vacating it, making it the longest stretch between #1s for any record in the SoundScan era.

Christmas was first released in October 2011 and became the 2nd biggest selling holiday album in North America last year behind Adeleâs 21 and the 2nd bestselling Holiday album of the SoundScan era, topped only by Celine Dionâs 1998 offering, These Are Special Times. Christmas first reached at #1 in Canada on November 13, 2011. Two weeks later it began a five week reign at #1 ending the week of December 25, 2011.

Christmas has also returned to #1 in Australia while moving to #5 in the U.S. with a 61% sales increase. Last week CTV re-ran Michael Bubléâs 2011 âA Michael Bublé Christmasâ while NBC and CityTV aired Michaelâs new âHome For The Holidaysâ special earlier this week. Featuring guest appearances from Rod Stewart, Blake Shelton and Carly Rae Jepsen. âHome For The Holidaysâ also included a magical duet with the late great Bing Crosby on âWhite Christmas.â That particular rendition of the holiday classic is now available for sale on iTunes. NBC and CityTV will feature an encore presentation of âHome For The Holidaysâ on Friday, December 21 at 8 p.m. ET/PT, 9 p.m. MT/CT.

Christmas includes Bubléâs own interpretation of âWhite Christmasâ with a guest appearance by fellow Canadian Shania Twain, âJingle Bellsâ (with the Puppini Sisters), âHave Yourself A Merry Little Christmasâ and âSanta Claus Is Coming To Townâ as well as Michaelâs original composition âCold December Nightâ.
