STARTED WITH A BANG! BRETT KISSEL’S DEBUT SINGLE SETS CANADIAN RADIO RECORD

MUSIC VIDEO FOR STARTED WITH A SONG PREMIERES ON CMT AND CMT.CA TOMORROW

"Started With A Song," the debut single from Warner Music Canada country music recording artist Brett Kissel, has made an explosive debut, becoming the most added track at Canadian Country radio in its first week – not just this week, but in any week for a Country radio single. With more than 93% of Canadian Country stations adding the song, “Started With A Song” eclipses the record for most adds at Country radio in one week, a record previously held by Taylor Swift, whose “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together” picked up 73% of potential adds in its first week.

"This is a very impressive start for Brett Kissel," says Brett Gelfant, Director of Canadian Label Sales & Customer Service, Mediabase. "'Started With A Song' picked up more adds than any other Canadian or International artist at the Country format in a week, since Mediabase began tracking radio adds in Canada."

Kissel’s single was also the most added track across all Canadian radio formats combined this week.

On the Broadcast Data Systems (BDS) Canadian Country radio charts, "Started With A Song" debuted at No. 40 and was No. 1 most increased (spins) and No. 1 greatest gainer (audience). "The No. 40 entry on the Country chart is an impressive accomplishment for a first time charted Canadian artist, particularly because it occurred in its first week of airplay, making this a very rare feat," said Paul Tuch, Director of Canadian Operations, Nielsen Entertainment.

The music video for "Started With A Song" will premiere on air on CMT and online at CMT.ca tomorrow (Thursday, June 27). The video, shot in Nashville last month, was directed by 2x-Juno and 4x-Canadian Country Music Association Award winner Margaret Malandruccolo.

Brett has spent the past two months on an extensive 25,000-km, eight-province Canadian promotional tour, visiting over 100 radio stations, retail and media outlets to introduce his debut single. The 23-year-old from Flat Lake, Alberta, - the CCMA’s youngest nominee to date – is putting the finishing touches on his major label debut album, Started With A Song, due for release this fall.

Co-produced by Kissel with Ted Hewitt (Rodney Atkins), CCMA Award-winner Bart McKay and Ben Phillips (Blake Shelton), the forthcoming album Started With A Song is an exhilarating collection of music: each song a slice of real-life sentiment; emotional touchstones that run the gamut of highs and lows and explore such subjects as deep love, trying moments and poignant reflection, measured out by party anthems and a sense that something special is happening here with Brett Kissel.
