SCOTT HELMAN TOPS TEEN VOGUE’S LIST OF SINGERS TO WATCH FOR IN 2016
Warner Music Canada artist Scott Helman tops the recently published Teen Vogue list of “14 Singers Who Are Going To Dominate In 2016.” Also on the list are other breakout stars such as Elle King, Melanie Martinez and Halsey. The story describes Scott’s music as “so supremely catchy, you’ll feel like you’ve heard them before.” This past December in US Weekly Magazine, Shawn Mendes named Scott’s track “That Sweater” as one of his current favourite acoustic tracks alongside those of Ed Sheeran, Plain White T’s and Adele.
“Bungalow,” the first single from Scott’s debut EP Augusta enjoyed great multi-format radio play in 2015, climbing the charts at Modern Rock, Hot AC and CHR. In June, “Bungalow” was nominated as best Pop Video at the MuchMusic Video awards. Scott and his band performed a dynamic version of the song live on the awards show broadcast across Canada. By August the single was certified gold and the track recently received certification from BDS for over 50,000 spins at radio.
In the Fall, Scott was named the first-ever winner of Spotify’s Emerge program, a 13-week contest with 12 other young Canadian artists. Fans had their say with the winner being decided by streams and shares. The streaming service also included Scott as one of only three artists to be a part of their national television campaign that ran through the holiday season. Since launching his music on Spotify, Scott’s music has been streamed over 3.5 million times. Scott’s videos have been viewed over 2.6 million times on YouTube.
Scott spent most of 2015 on tour. He made his U.S. debut opening for Walk Off The Earth on their month-long tour of the U.S. in the summer that included dates in New York, Boston, Chicago, Los Angeles and San Francisco. Scott made his European debut in the Fall as the opening act on Walk Off The Earth’s month-long tour covering 25 shows in over ten countries including performances in London, Paris, Milan, Vienna and Berlin. He finished off the year with seven weeks of dates across Canada opening for Matthew Good – hitting all of the country’s major markets as well as some not so major markets. 2016 started the way 2015 ended, with Scott and his band on stage, making his New York City debut showcasing to a packed house at Pianos Nightclub in Manhattan.
Scott is currently enjoying radio success with two simultaneous singles at radio. The tracks “That Sweater” and “Machine,” both taken from Augusta are currently Top 30 at Canadian radio.
